at a safe distance

Great piece from Poet553

express yourself

IMG_1524at a safe distance

some know their future;
others wait. unallocated still.
still in silent debris.

in a city of ghosts,
how they wail.
thin voices
shatter against ruins
and blazing fires.
their cities burned,
destroyed.
upon what ground?

their hearts were here.

no people now.

some have sailed away with twenty people
on 2.3 metres of hope; an illegal
craft, fit for six; they kiss
the tears they swim in
and dream of beaches booming
and watch their motherland burn
behind them – overcome, dead.

no question; no line left –
sink into your chest;
feel that second-hand sting
you can only feel when imagining

Them.
